My Atari computers

#1 ATARI 800XE

Date acquired: summer 1990 (approximately)
Origin: Germany
How acquired: gift from my parents
Notes: I no longer own this computer, but I am trying to find it

The first computer I encountered as a kid. It stayed with me from roughly the fifth grade of primary school until my first year of secondary school. My parents probably bought the ATARI shortly after the Velvet Revolution during one of the customary shopping trips to Germany. Back then everyone wanted Hi-Fi systems, cassette players and basically anything that smelled of the West. I still remember spending my summer holidays with my grandparents at their cottage by the Sázava River. My parents would arrive at weekends to work on improvements to the cottage. One day, however, they did not arrive empty-handed: the boot was full of all kinds of electronics (and a Wartburg can hold quite a lot), including an ATARI computer. To this day I wonder what made them buy it, because I do not remember begging for a computer at home. I remember my first games, which took an incredibly long time to load: Arkanoid, Pole Position and Keystone Kapers. Later my dad ordered a TURBO 2000 modification somewhere. It was the legendary cartridge from JRC. In the end I treated the computer rather badly, because while at secondary school I sold it to a friend for CZK 1,000. If there were one moment in my life I could take back, this would be it. Although I have piles of childhood photos at home, unfortunately I do not have a single one with my legendary ATARI 800XE.
